What good is fasting for you?

Do you know that, when your computer freezes and you have to restart it? After that, it runs faster, better and feels fresh.

That was the best metaphor for my boyfriend Chris to understand my motivation for fasting.

Lose weight

Of course, you lose weight, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what fasting does for you.


Fasting is the easiest, cheapest way to do something for your health. In short, it has a preventive effect against almost all diseases. You can research Doktor & scientific statements yourself.


Strengthens your nerves and increases your energy balance. For example, it makes all the difference whether or not you have lunchtime sleepiness.

Fountain of youth

Activates autophagy, your body’s own cell cleansing system. Among other things, it gives you better skin than any cream can do.

Immune system

Cell cleaning removes unwanted viruses and bacteria from your system and thus strengthens your immune system.


In a week of fasting, you will have your best personal learnings and grow as a person.

Throughout 2020, I was bothered by my eating behaviour. I always wanted to put something in my mouth and always wanted a second serving at meals. Not because I needed it, but because it was so good and I enjoyed it.

During the week of fasting in January 2021, I became aware of my old behaviour pattern:

Work before pleasure. First, do what needs to be done and then enjoy. My insight from this is: I have never looked for pleasure in work, but always in the reward afterwards. During the week of fasting, I learned to work in order to enjoy work because of it. After that, there was nothing sweet. For me it is a whole new attitude towards life, to fully enjoy what I am doing and not to wait for the reward.

Mara, do I have to fast for a whole week now?

No, don’t worry, you can also do intermittent fasting. I would recommend this to you at the beginning if you want to start integrating fasting into your life.

Fasting methods:

1.Intermittent fasting

The goal is with a late breakfast and an early dinner to avoid eating for as many hours as possible.

For example breakfast from 9:00. dinner at 17:00 – 18:00. After dinner, you avoid chips, sugary drinks and alcohol. Then you fasted for 15 hours. Ideally, you do this Monday – Friday. You can organize the times flexibly, it doesn’t matter whether you eat breakfast at 8:00 or 9:00. It is important that you start fasting. It is also possible to eat from 12:00 to 24:00 and not to eat anything from 24:00 to 12:00. Then you fast for 12 hours, which is also a great start.

2.Weekday fasting

If you declare Monday to be a fasting day and have nothing or only soup for dinner on Monday.

I’ll have my last meal on Sunday evening. On Monday I only drink water, black coffee and tea without nothing until I have a plentiful breakfast on Tuesday morning.

3.Fasting week

There are different versions with juice, broth or just water and tea. You can find plenty of information on this on the Internet. I particularly recommend interviews with Ruediger Dahlke.

It is important that you move during the week of fasting. Do yoga, go for a walk, take a hike. The main thing is that the circulation is stimulated, which is essential so that your body can perform its functions well.

What happens now when fasting:

Fasting activates autophagy, the body’s own cell cleansing. Your body is not busy digesting while fasting. But rather to carry out the cell waste.

When we eat more than we need (almost everyone in Western society does. The proof is on the hips) the body stores food in the form of tissue water, fat and cellulite. When fasting, it’s the other way around. Since nothing enters the body, it turns to the stored reserves, reduces them and brings the accumulated cell waste outside.

“The difference between an old body and a young body is the accumulation of cell waste.” I heard this sentence from the scientist and product developer of the Ringana company at a conference and it burned itself into my brain. I mean, who wants to walk around with a pile of cell waste? I definitely don’t!

In 2020 I water fasted completely for 29 days and I swear that I have less white hair than before! This is reason enough for me to continue fasting.
