Do you know that situation, you think you have to go through your training routine now, but you don’t feel it at all, your body doesn’t go along with it. Your body is not awake, not present and feels weak and stiff!
The critical question to ask yourself is:

I don’t feel like it now because there is something more urgent or something more pleasant that I want to pursue. Or am I not in the mood because my body is overtrained and needs a break?

 

How do you find out if it’s first or second? Wonder what’s behind it? What would you do if you skipped your exercise routine?

  1. Do you have something urgent to do afterwards? Do you have to fill out the tax return before the deadline expires? In that case, you can prioritize and decide what is more important at the moment. You will likely feel energized and motivated again as soon as you have dealt with your unfinished business.
  2. Or do you prefer to meet friends instead of training and pamper yourself with unhealthy food, then this is a lazy distraction of your brain. In that case, it is essential to show your brain who is making the decisions. Take the lead and start your training routine consistently and with discipline!
  3. But it can also be that you notice your pulse is slow, your body needs warmth and is limp and you actually just want to rest. In that case, you should listen to your body and TRAIN REGENERATION. Think about the fastest way to regain energy. At that moment, you are not demotivated, but your body has a protection program running that protects you from overtraining and thus from injuries! What is certain is that if you listen to your body and take a rest, your workout joy and motivation will return!

 

  • So how can you best support your regeneration? Here are a few suggestions that always work;

 

  • Go for a stroll in nature. Walking gently stimulates your circulation and helps the body to remove toxins and harmonize body functions.

 

  • Drink water, avoid alcohol and sweet beverages. Water can absorb and remove unwanted toxins from the cells.

 

  • Eat healthy and not too much. Avoid sugar, white flour and bad fats. Digestion requires a lot of energy, which is then lost from regeneration. Your body can handle less food better than too much, so eat the right thing with moderation.

 

  • Do relaxation exercises. You can do stretching or yoga if it is not strenuous for you.

 

  • Allow yourself a 20-minute power nap.

 

  • Read a book or watch a documentary and learn about your favourite workout subject. Train by expanding your knowledge.

 

  • Visualize! Go over your workout in your head. Be specific and pay attention to details. Work out the scenarios in your mind down to the smallest detail. What are your hands doing, where are your feet, when do you breathe in and out again? What feeling should the action evoke? Which thoughts should go through your head during which action?

Keep in mind; less is often more!
